Gear Modifications

With a predicted high of -24C today I thought it would be appropriate to discuss my latest gear modification. The neoprene face guard is a invaluable ultra lightweight peace in your pack on days like today. Walking around with scabs on your face for a month(yours truly last year) doesn't looks so cool.

Now for some of the beta: cost $19.99 at MEC, original weight 239grams, post mod weight 217grams, tools needed: scissors (man that's a tough one to spell), warm steady hands.

Directions: put on face guard, figure out where your lips line up, remove face guard(very important), cut 2 holes where air comes out...Voila!

This weight savings (about half that of a quality farmer blow) should be the difference of you feeling the guard in your pack and not noticing it at all. Oh ya, and so I don't get a couple hundred emails wondering why one side is cut bigger than the other, this is just a prototype so I wanted to experiment with which was better. And if it stays this cold for much longer I may indeed blog the results. So stay tuned.
