Cayoosh...Take 3

After 2 previous unsuccessful attempts on Mt. Cayoosh this winter, it looked like Sunday it was going to happen. Weather called for a mix of sun and cloud with low freezing levels, avi danger was low.

Looking up to the toe of the Cayoosh Glacier

Lunch break before getting on the glacier. El Medig entertains Pete and Laurie with...(actually I'm not really sure what he is doing).

...and Laurie was worried about joining a "sausage party"

The weather went pear shaped as we exited the glacier to the col before the summit ridge, so we decided to wait and see if it cleared again. El Medig kept things light with a full reinactment of Nacho Libre.

"Hey... Save me some of that corn for later!"

After a long wait, we decided to take the next sucker whole for the lengthy glacier run.

Baja!

Its Lauries turn at THE BOB BLOG. So heres our Baja tale...
We started the trip on the Sea of Cortez, in the town of San Felipe. With 30 degree temps and sandy beaches we figured we'd stay all week- however the long easter weekend and college spring break turned San Felipe into this:

And this... (drag racing on the beach)

We watched and laughed and then drove far far away. We found the hot sunny beach we were looking for, and a few other neat things along the way...

Sun, 30 degrees, and nowhere to be... except at the ice cream stand.

Our camp site nite #1

Puertecitos, a small fishing village south of San Felipe

We consulted Lonely Planet and decided to head for the hills and check out a national park with a lakeside campsite at 4000 ft. Heres what was left of the lake...

We went boulder hiking on the endless boulder mountains

Next we drove to the pacific and up to San Diego. On the way through Tijuana, I was pulled over by the Mexican Police for eating a churro (sticks of fried dough) while driving. We couldn't believe it- you'd think there might be way more illegal things going on in Tijuana while he was inspecting our churros... Luckily the officer ended up letting us go, fine (and bribe) free!

Contrary to prediction Bob survived and enjoyed the Mexican food. He managed 4 fish tacos a day, and was a regular at the local bakery.

We made it through the border without even a glance from US homeland security, and drove up to San Diego. We found a beach front hostel to call home for a few nites- here was our view and dinner table...

We checked out the beaches and found the paragliders launching area

On our last day we thought we better try out the surf. With 9 foot foam boards, anything is possible...

It was a great holiday and adventure. Bob impressed me with his Spanish- later I found out he was either asking: how much? or wheres the food? But I can't complain- we didn't spend many pesos and were always well fed. I'm already looking forward to (and planning) the next sunny holiday.

Phelix Creek Day1-2

March 31-April 3, 2007

Last September I hiked into the Brian Waddington hut with Becky. We heard it was a great place to ski in the winter so we thought we would come back and check it out. Becky had the great idea of going into the cabin for Easter, however I was going to Baja then so Kari and I decided to go the weekend before. I really have to thank Becky for the idea.

Just a little bit of snow up there...

Heading up Froto for a few runs after dumping the overnight gear.

Day2
We woke up to 3 inches of fresh and more coming down.

Cabin Hill

After a few rounds of "mini golf" on cabin hill, we thought we would have lunch and kill some time hoping the weather would clear in the afternoon.

"Hey Bob, I'll get us some water"

"Hey Bob, get a picture of me swinging these things around"

Definitely only for those amused by potty humor!

An one hour sucker hole lured us out on an attempt of Mt. Aragorn which ended up in a whiteout, so we returned to the cabin to enjoy the beer that our prior cabinmates from Prior snowboards had left us. They Heli'd in and were skiing out so they gave us all kinds of good stuff they didn't want to carry out.
